Another week, another disappointing results show on The X Factor. Josh Krajcik, Rachel Crow, Melanie Amaro, Chris Rene and Marcus Canty were up for elimination on Thursday’s episode of The X Factor after singing dance tunes and a song of their own choice on Wednesday. I thought Marcus should be sent home, but that Josh may be in trouble. I was hoping it wouldn't be Josh, but I could care less about Marcus (sorry!).
Lenny Kravitz sang “Rock Star City Life” from his new album Black and White America and “Are You Gonna Go My Way," and Mary J. Blige performed her new ballad “Need Someone to Love You” from My Life II... The Journey Continues (Act 1) before one of the semi-finalists’ dreams was shattered.
The three sent through to safety were Josh, Chris and Melanie, leaving Rachel and Marcus to sing for survival at the mercy of the judges. While I think that Marcus definitely deserved to be in the bottom two, I was shocked that Rachel was not in the top three. I think she wants to win the most.
Marcus daringly sang Mary J.’s “I’m Going Down,” and Rachel chose Etta James’ “I’d Rather Go Blind.” Marcus opened his number singing a capella, which I really liked. However, I thought Rachel’s performance was more honest and passionate.
The judges were tied, with two votes to send home Marcus and two eliminating Rachel. After the deadlock, the decision was based on America’s votes. Host Steve Jones announced that Rachel had received the lowest number of votes. Rachel has kept her composure throughout the competition, but she broke down and fell to the floor. She is also heard saying to her mother, “Mommy, you promised!”
I’m still in denial about Drew’s untimely departure last week, which left her in ruins. I’m beginning to wonder if 14 is simply too young to handle the pressure of rejection on singing competition shows such as this one. After watching these two poor girls have their dream ripped to shreds on national television, this seems to be a reason that the minimum age to participate in American Idol is 16.
Find out who will make it through to the finale next week on Fox. Until then…
